Meet your host Lexi!
Hi, I’m Lexi, ambassador of the Cleveland Chapter! I took over as ambassador in June, and man has it been a wild ride. I have this massive love for the outdoors, be it hiking, backpacking, car camping, glamping, or anything else you can think of. Apparently, this love and excitement I have is great for leading a group of wonderful ladies. In my time as ambassador I’ve seen ladies grow their confidence to finally hike alone, I’ve taken women on their first backpacking trips (and they didn’t hate it), and I’ve seen friendships blossom and trail sisters formed. I am so happy that I first found the Hikerbabes and then became an ambassador, because it is a perfect fit for me! I love sharing my love of nature, and am so glad I have almost 800 ladies who want to follow me and my co-ambassadors into the wilderness! Happy hiking!

After the hike, we’ll keep heading further south to the small seaside hamlet of Seward, set on an inlet on the Kenai Peninsula. Seward is the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park, where glaciers flow from the Harding Icefield into coastal fjords whose main inhabitants are halibut, whales and puffins.

Byron Glacier descends from the same ice field that feeds nearby Portage Glacier and Blackstone Glacier in Prince William Sound. The trail is a perfect example of how an ecosystem rebounds from the ice age, with large trees and forest giving way to alder thickets, which in turn morph into lichen-dotted rock only recently exposed by retreating ice. Distance: 3.2 miles out-and-back / Elevation gain: 787 ft on the ascent / Duration: 2-3 hours / Difficulty: Easy

If you're up for the challenge, lace up your hiking boots and follow your guide to a hike above the tree line to the top of Exit Glacier where it meets the Harding Icefield. The icefield stretches to the horizon and is one of the most awe-inspiring views you will ever experience. On your way back down the mountain, keep your eyes open for marmots, mountain goats, and of course, bears! Distance: 9.2 miles out-and-back / Elevation gain: 3,641 ft on the ascent / Duration: 6-8 hours / Difficulty: Strenuous/Hard

This cruise, narrated by a national park ranger, journeys through Resurrection Bay, out into the Gulf of Alaska, and then into one of the many nearby fjords. Along the way, you may spot whales, orcas, sea otters, and other marine life. Not to mention, the occasional bear lingering on a beach or mountain goat high in the surrounding cliffs. As you move through the fjords, you'll stop near one of the many glaciers and view the continual calving of ice. Sections of glaciers, often the size of a house, fall hundreds of feet, crashing into the ocean. The power and scale of the glaciers in Alaska make for a tremendous sight!
