We'll be at the airport to greet you when you touchdown in Scotland. In the evening, your guide will collect you from the hotel to walk you to one of our favourite local pubs for a welcome dinner and the opportunity to get to know your travelling companions! You'll have the chance to try our national dish - Haggis, neeps and tatties - and no welcome dinner would be complete without a wee dram or two!

Overnight in Edinburgh
After a hearty breakfast, your guide will meet you at the hotel and take you on a walking tour of our capital city - they'll enthral you with stories from Edinburgh's 3000 years of human history as we take in all of the iconic sites. Edinburgh is compact but by its very nature can be hilly in places, so we'll be taking a relaxed pace and stopping regularly. You'll have the opportunity to pick up lunch from a local eatery. After lunch, we'll walk up the Castle Esplanade, location of the world-famous Edinburgh Royal Military Tattoo and visit the heart of the city - Edinburgh Castle. The whole afternoon is dedicated to this historic and iconic location. Often described as the most besieged place in the British Isles, it is worth taking the time to explore properly. Within its hallowed walls - amongst other highlights -there lie the Honours of Scotland, Stone of Destiny, Royal Palace, St Margaret's Chapel, Scottish National War Memorial and the giant cannon - Mon's Meg. Once you've explored the castle you're free to spend the rest of the evening as you wish. Make sure to get a good nights sleep in anticipation of the next few days of adventuring on the road!

Overnight in Edinburgh
Departing Edinburgh after breakfast, We'll head north over the Firth of Forth and view the impressive Forth Bridges before passing through the ancient Kingdom of Fife and into Perthshire. On the banks of the mighty River Tay lies Dunkeld - a beautiful planned estate village with a cathedral dating back to the 10th Century. We'll stop here for a break and a walk through the beautiful woodlands of the nearby Hermitage before continuing onwards to the Cairngorms National Park and the Highland Folk Museum - an immersive outdoor museum which gives an insight into life in the Highlands up to the early 1700's. Films and TV productions such as Outlander have been shot here. We'll continue north to Tomatin Distillery, high in the Cairngorms, where we'll leave you in the hands of the distillery team for a tour and tasting of our 'water of life' - Whisky. A short drive north will take us to the bronze-aged standing stones and burial chambers at Balnuaran of Clava, before visiting the site of the last major battle on British soil at Culloden. Then it's down to the Beauly firth and the Capital City of the Highlands - Inverness for the night. As the only city in the Highlands, Inverness is a vibrant hub with plenty of bars and restaurants, some offering live traditional music sessions.

We'll take a walk through the beautiful ancient trees of the Hermitage to view a Victorian folly and the Black Linn Waterfalls on the River Braan.
The UK’s largest National Park, your local guide will introduce you to the natural beauty and history of the Scottish Highlands.
You'll visit this immersive outdoor museum which gives an insight into life in the Highlands up to the early 1700's.
Visit the Tomatin Distillery, high in the Cairngorms, where you'll be left in the hands of the distillery team for a tour and tasting.

Overnight in Inverness
After breakfast, we'll leave Inverness behind and follow the shores of the monstrous Loch Ness before setting a course for the north-west, passing through majestic Glen Shiel. We'll stop to take in views of the iconic Eilean Donan castle before crossing over the bridge to the Isle of Skye - famed for it's rugged and atmospheric scenery - it's a place of mythical giants, viking warriors and gaelic legends.

Overnight in Isle of Skye
Leaving Portree, we'll drive down to the south end of Skye to visit the ancient seat of the Lord of the Isles at Armadale Castle. After a visit to the Museum of the Isles we'll take the ferry over to the fishing port of Mallaig - a beautiful sea crossing with frequent wildlife sightings. After some time in Mallaig for lunch, we'll drive the famous 'Road to the Isles', stopping at Glenfinnan - the place where the failed 1745 rebellion began and where just over 150 years later, the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct was constructed. We may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the Jacobite Steam Train aka. 'The Hogwarts Express' which travels this line daily. Passing under the shadow of the UK's highest mountain - Ben Nevis - we'll follow the road south into Glencoe where your guide will bring to life the story of the infamous massacre. We'll continue down the west coast and into the bustling port of Oban - known as the 'Gateway to the Isles'. Oban has many excellent seafood restaurants which cater to all budgets, but few things can beat sitting on the pier watching the ferries glide into the bay while munching on the tastiest fish and chips! We'll stay overnight in an Oban Hotel.

After a relaxed breakfast, we'll leave Oban behind to drive inland through the Pass of Brander and Loch Awe, stopping to see the architecturally unique St Conan's Kirk - voted one of Scotland's most iconic buildings of the last 100 years. There will also be the chance to see Kilchurn Castle - ancestral home of the Campbells of Glenorchy and one of Scotland's most photographed castles. Onwards up Glen Lochy towards Tyndrum, where we'll stop for some lunch before making the drive back down through the Trossachs National Park towards Stirling. Following the Forth estuary, we'll arrive back into Edinburgh mid-afternoon. Once we've dropped you off in the city, you have the rest of the afternoon to spend as you wish. You can take a wander through Princes Street gardens, join a tour of Edinburgh's vast underground chambers, or enjoy a stroll through the Georgian grandeur of the New Town. We'll all get together in the evening for a farewell dinner and a wee deoch an dorus!

We'll be available to pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to the airport in plenty of time for your return flight.
