Tortuguero Town Walking Tour
Learn about Tortuguero, its habitat and its people. This village is part of Tortuguero National Park and is on a rainforest-covered sandbar whose beaches are a major nesting site for green turtles. The Sea Turtle Conservancy runs a research station and visitor center, with turtle-related exhibits. The park’s freshwater canals, wetlands and forests shelter wildlife like jaguars, tapirs and manatees.

Turtle Nesting Tour (Optional)
Tortuguero, meaning “region of turtles”, is the most important green sea turtle nesting site in the Western Hemisphere. This area is home to four of the world’s eight species of green sea turtle including Leatherback, Loggerhead and Hawksbill. On this tour, your group will be taken to a “viewing base” where the park ranger will signal you to come onto the beach and quietly observe as these gentle creatures lay their eggs. All tours are highly regulated by the Tortuguero National park rangers, whose priority is the safety and wellbeing of the animals in this delicate process.
